Manchester - NHS and City Council

NHS Manchester and Manchester City Council have joined forces in a Joint Venture to form points4life. points4life Limited will be the legal entity to manage and govern the points4life programme.

NHS Manchester is the lead organisation for the NHS in Manchester and is responsible for making sure funding for health services is targeted where it is needed the most, NHS care is of the highest standards and, ultimately, local people are able to lead longer, healthier lives.

NHS Manchester funds a wide range of services that meet the needs of all communities in the City of Manchester. For example, it commissions services from hospitals, general practitioners (GPs) and dentists so that suitable treatment is available where and when it is needed.

Manchester City Council plans, commissions and provides a wide range of civic services for the people of Manchester. These include many of the services traditionally associated with local government – such as social care, education and housing – but also partnership development and management around topics such as regeneration, economic development, public health and community safety.

The combined budgets for both organisations for the financial year 08/09 was in excess of £2.4bn. Manchester is rightly proud to be one of the most dynamic and diverse cities in the United Kingdom. It is a centre for commerce and growing prosperity and is widely regarded as England's second city.

Manchester is ambitious and wants to see local communities' health make the same great strides forward as the city itself.
